The buffaloes at the river of Pakha
Oil on canvas - Signed and dated 1934
There are few opportunities to find the precise location of sites chosen by Vietnamese painters of the early twentieth century, except when famous monuments are depicted.
In the case of this painting, we were lucky to find this site thanks to a photograph (see attached photo) from an album published by the General Government of Indochina entitled "River of Pakha" and which Mai Thu was obviously inspired.
