 Louis Tocqué born in 1696 and died in 1792, was a French portrait painter active during the period of Rococo art. He was known for his ability to capture the likeness and personality of his subjects with great skill and sensitivity. Tocqué was born in Paris and trained with the famous portrait painter Hyacinthe Rigaud. He became a member of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1720 and pursued a brilliant career as a portrait painter, receiving numerous commissions from members of the French aristocracy and royalty.
