Indigo, Peking China Rug

Decorative Chinese rug from Beijing, mid-century with a beautiful Art Deco design.
Seductive colors with its indigo blue, entirely hand-knotted with wool velvet on a cotton base.

China has a long and remarkable artistic tradition of carpet production, dating back to the 15th century. Originally, the designs and patterns were inspired by Chinese culture: porcelains, landscapes, majestic dragons, religious symbols. The patterns of Chinese rugs are usually cut in relief, which gives them their famous three-dimensional appearance.

Made of soft wool, Chinese carpets have a rather thick and dense pile, for this model it is said to be 7/8th = very robust and thick, they are nonetheless very soft and pleasant when walked on.

Size : 338x247 cm + 7cm of fringes per side
Condition : Good general condition. A trace of a chair leg (which will fade with time). A small spot of color on one of the patterns (see photos).
The fringes are stained in places on the underside which are slightly visible when the rug is placed on the ground (see photos).
The color difference in blue is only due to taking the photos in the sun.

The rug has been professionally washed.
