We have here a very rare pair of candelabra whose design was probably made by a haberdasher. Design perfectly balanced between charm and an abundance of detail.
The body is in cobalt blue Le Creusot glass, entirely faceted seized at its base by the top of the bowl pedestal and at its neck by a basket of simulated basketry.
These two bronze elements are linked to each other by two branches of leaves and berries, fixed by a link (rope and simulated nail) to the basket. The base is in black marble in a notched square bearing the base of the pedestal of the same shape and decorated with a granite pattern reserve. Four arms of light emerge from the basket, they carry pendants in rock crystal in the shape of a drop and a stylized leaf. The sober binets are in a corolla of leaves.
The candelabra is balanced for the eye by a large central finial with four series of branches also bearing rock crystal pendants. The pendants are cut in a very sober way.
We find a delicacy of detail in the striking carving of the time of Louis XVI. The rarity of this kind of lighting is easily explained by their fragility, and especially because very few have been created and manufactured.
Moreover in Russia where France was considered as the reference of the taste one manufactured around 1800,1820 of the luminaries resulting from the same materials, but more important and of a beauty more “snow in winter”.
