"Important Copper Cloisonné Vase, Origin China - Late 19th Century"
Chinese Copper Vase, with Honeycombed Bottom and Cloisonne Enamelling. This Goldsmithing Technique is based on the principle of Metal slats with upturned edges welded to the bottom of the Object. In the cavities thus formed is poured powder of various colors, which will not risk mixing during heating. The flared opening of this Vase is bordered by a large Frieze where Turquoise, White and Red patterns are repeated. The upper part, slightly narrower, is entwined with an Important Dragon with long goaties. Its winged body has Green and Pink scales and a dorsal mane. Its legs are terminated by Eagle claws. This imaginary creature travels among small colored clouds. The lower part of this Vase, more swollen, is embellished on two of its faces with protruding Masks, with bulging eyes, large noses and pointed teeth. Around these Ethnic faces we discover bands of Floral Decorations on a Black background, in Cloisonné Enamels. The set rests on four Reptilian-looking feet. We can imagine several possible garnishes for this Pretty Asian Vase. Artificial flowers with long stems: Classic. Driftwood branches with poetic shapes: Original. Walking sticks and umbrellas: Diverted. As you wish… ******** Period: Late 19th century Perfect condition.
