Object description :

"Marius Barthalot (1861-1955) Fisherman Seated With A Pipe And A Glass In His Hands"
A truer-than-life expression for this fisherman at rest in this oil on canvas by Marseille artist Marius Barthalot. The work in excellent condition is offered in a beautiful 19th century gilt frame which measures 64 cm by 54.5 cm and 41 cm by 32.5 cm for the canvas alone. It represents a fisherman seated with a pipe and a glass in his hand in a sober and discreet interior. A touching work full of sensitivity signed and dedicated to "Monsieur L.Prétet" lower right. Pupil of Magaud in Marseille, then of Cabanel, Bonnat and Saintpierre in Paris, he exhibited very assiduously at the Salon of French Artists from 1885 to 1934: "In a cellar and happy mother (1903)", "Chant pour les prix (1905) ", "Little problem (1909), "The Little reader (1910)", "Mgr Gibier (1928)", Mgr Gosselin (1933)", "Pleasure port", "Provence in the shade (1934 pastel). .. He obtained an honorable mention and the Bashkirtseff Prize in 1896 (a party eve and portrait of MGD), 3rd class medals in 1899 (Mr. Maurice Robin and He who believes in me will have eternal life) and 2nd class in 1907 (la Petite Dodonne and her sisters and Les Petites ménagères) and the Prix Maignan in 1913 (Mr Eugène Durand, President of the Court of Cassation, Museum of Fine Arts in Rennes, and Madame BB). exhibitions of the Association of Marseille Artists, the Museum of Fine Arts of Marseille preserves of him "the Death of Mireille" (1885)".
