"Emile Wauters. Pencil On Paper."
Émile Charles Wauters, Belgian painter born in Brussels in 1846 and died in Paris in 1933. He was raised by Jean François Portaels at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. Emike Wauters has received a large number of notable distinctions and recognitions including: A large medal at the Paris Salon. Six medals in this same salon between 1878 and 1889, in Munich in 1879, Antwerp in 1885, Vienna in 1888, Berlin in 1883. He stayed in Cairo in Egypt and then painted his famous painting "Le panorama du Caire", oil on canvas. 114 meters X 14 meters. He also stayed in Morocco, in Tangier in 1884. It was most certainly during this trip that he produced this work. It is completely in the continuation of a series of drawings preserved in the Royal museums of Belgium and entitled "Arab of Tangier", "Chérif de Tanger" and "Jew of Tangier". They are, like our design, monogrammed EW and have approximately the same dimensions. This drawing is in perfect condition, it is monogrammed EW at the bottom right.
