"Two Beautiful Screens , Golden Chinoiseries, Polychrome Lacquer Nineteenth"
Here are two beautiful fans, or rather face screens, which allowed beautiful girls to warm themselves by the fireplace while protecting their face with pale complexion, handle from turned wood, two large sheets of black lacquered papier-mâché, each side decorated in color and gold, of two charming "chinoiserie" subjects. One of the screens more spectacular than the other, but they go well together, probably same manufacture.
Dimensions: 36cm x 24cm.
French or English work, Napoleon III period.
Condition: the two lacquered plates are thick, there is cracking and sticking at bottom of the large portraits screen, (red arrows), otherwise, nice fresh condition.
