Object description :

"Religious Painting Etienne Azambre (1859-1935) Christ As Good Shepherd Impressionist Symbolist "
Beautiful oil on canvas signed by the painter Etienne Azambre.

The scene here deals with a religious subject, the artist represents the child Christ as a good shepherd.
Religious subjects are the painter’s favorite theme.
The warm pastel colors are very beautiful, the impressionist touch here used is quite characteristic of the technique of the painter.

The work is signed at the bottom left and dated 1933, with a copyright: ©. It is possible to believe that this piece of Azambre was used (like many others) for the mechanical and industrial reproduction of pious images.

The signature seems to have been deleted and then added (perhaps by the painter himself). From the subject, the technique, the support (other works of the artist have been made with a canvas is an identical chassis), I have no doubt about the authenticity of this work.
We also find the same sheep and the same Christ in other paintings of the artist (see photos).
German export stamp on the back of the table on the chassis.

I sell this painting in its juice. A snag in the top right is to be pointed out, so the painting is dirty and deserves a good cleaning to regain its former brilliance.

Étienne Azambre is listed among the small masters of painting.
Some of his paintings are on display at the Louvre.

Dimensions: 80 x 56 cm

Étienne Azambre is a French painter born on February 2, 1859 in Paris, France. Etienne enrolled at the Académie Julian in 1879 and graduated in 1882. He then continued his artistic training at the École nationale des Beaux-Arts until 1885, during which time he had as teachers William Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury. Azambre served in the army at Orléans, where he befriended renowned painters such as Lucien Simon and Georges Desvallières.
Étienne Azambre exhibited frequently at the Paris Salon between 1883 and 1904. He also participated in the exhibition organized in 1889 by the Friends of Art of the department of Seine-et-Oise. Etienne had his first exhibition at the Royal Museum of Modern Art in Brussels. His works have gained national popularity and have appeared as illustrations in various French magazines.
