Edmond De Meulenaere is a Belgian artist born in 1884 in Koekelberg/Brussels and died in 1963 in Uccle. He was a painter and draftsman. Training at the Brussels Academy. Became a war volunteer in 1914 then painted front scenes. Subsequently, landscapes, seascapes, still lifes, figures were created. Found inspiration for his landscapes especially in the region of Uccle. Worked in broad strokes and colored surfaces, thus leaning somewhat towards Brabant fauvism. From the press: “Impressionist, but above all neo-Impressionist: his penchant for freedom and independence is expressed mainly in his remarkable use of color. EDM's painting is above all an exteriorization of his temperament, the reflection of his independent soul? What touches him is painted as he sees it regardless of what movement or school the critics will classify him again” and “He was primarily a landscape painter. But he also had an eye for moody corners, for everyday scenes. The landscapes of Uccle and Linkebeek attract him the most. Through most of his works, one can still discern the rebellion of his youth, a desire for independence, a quest for exteriority that accompanied him throughout his life.
