FENOUIL, representing a lady of quality holding her little butterfly spaniel by a ribbon seated on a green velvet cushion richly enhanced with gold thread trimmings. The fabrics, the lace, the flowers adorning the lady's hair, the richness of the composition make it a precious and refined portrait.
Jean César FENOUIL is a portraitist of the reign of Louis XV. He was admitted to the Royal Academy of Paris in 1740 and exhibited several portraits at the Salon. He is one of the founders of the Academy of Painting of Marseille. He painted the great characters of his time, such as the Count of Maurepas or the Duke and Duchess of Orleans.
Painting in perfect condition, cleaned, formerly relined, on its original reinforced frame, and presented in an imposing Louis XV style frame in wood and gilded stucco. Total dimensions: 123 X 105 cm, and 100 X 81 cm without frame
