Object description :

"Bompard - Large Confiturier In Sterling Silver With Dolphins & Vermeil Spoons"
By the master goldsmith Hippolyte-Pierre Bompard, superb large jam maker in solid silver, baluster shape, French hallmark, called "old man" (Michelangelo), first title (950/1000). The large basin carved with ovals, rests on a square base with claw feet, topped with a circular groove decorated with swans around a medallion with a female portrait. The conical and plain throat, adorned with four stylized dolphins, supports its large basin in cut crystal decorated with long gadroons and threads at mid-height. On each side are flanked by two console handles, fluted and richly foliated and ending in a winding around a rosette. Resting on the scalloped edge of a frieze of water leaves, the lid supports its large frieze in a wreath of flowers, leaves and fruits on a leafy terrace. Restoration period, old man's mark and large guarantee for Paris 1819-1838. Hallmarks on the edges of the body and on the lid, very faded for that of the goldsmith but perfectly identifiable. Micro-marks and micro-scratches from normal use. One of the twelve rings has a crack in its center, imperceptible and without any effect on the good behavior of the spoons, the rings being consistent and solid. The jam maker is of remarkable quality. Twelve vermeil jam spoons accompany it, stamped with the hallmark of master goldsmith François Cazaban, cutler.
