BOX with Holy Oils in rectangular pewter with relief decoration of masks and foliage scrolls, resting on four molded feet.
Ownership mark engraved and dated on the exterior bottom: Christian cross / 1613 / IVERDON.
Dimensions: 13.7 x 6.5 x 5cm.
LYON or BESANCON, Circa 1600

This is Yverdon-les-bains (near Lausanne).
Several boxes of this type have appeared on the market over the past forty years, comprising lids of two types, one in the shape of a semi-cylinder, the other in the shape of an ogee. Here the lid summarily replaces the absent original. This type of box is extremely rare.
