Important orientalist painting by Laurits Tuxen (Copenhagen 1853-1927), depicting "Susanna at her bath". Signed L. Tuxen London 1892. Oil on canvas 92x187 cm.
Superfine painter, he worked for various royal courts including the Danish and the Russian ones by virtue of his excellent skills as a portraitist. In this work, probably commissioned by England, Tuxen was inspired by Alma Tadema of whom we find some stylistic references and with whom he probably came into contact during his stay in London.
