Object description :

"Achille Castiglioni & Paolo Ferrari / Bbb Bonachina Italia, 'quark' Design Desk Office 1982"
Modernist office desk with simple and refined lines, resulting from a collaboration between Achille Castiglioni and Paolo Ferrari and produced by BBB Bonachina in 1982, looks like the modernism of the Zig Zag chair & armchair of Gerrit Rietveld's furniture... Several versions have been edited (see photo of the models), this one includes a straight box with 3 drawers. Structure in black lacquered wood, very good condition (slight traces of wear due to use and time). Achille Castiglioni studied architecture at the Polytechnic of Milan and graduated in 1944. He joined his two brothers Livio (1911-1979) and Pier Giacomo (1913-1968) in their design studio in Milan. As for some of their young fellow architects (Ettore Sottsass or Marco Zanuso), the lack of architectural projects led the Castiglioni brothers to develop design projects for Italian manufacturers wishing to relaunch their activity after the war. Livio left the family studio in 1952. During the 1950s and 1960s, the Achille brothers and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni created a large number of objects for manufacturers such as Flos, BBB Bonachina Italia and Zanotta. Paolo Ferrari is an internationally acclaimed designer and the founder of Studio Paolo Ferrari, a Toronto-based multidisciplinary design studio focusing on interiors and objects. Formerly a director at the renowned Canadian company Yabu Pushelberg, Paolo Ferrari led many prestigious projects, including leading the team responsible for transforming the interior spaces of the Four Seasons and Viceroy hotels. In 2016, Ferrari launched "Editions", a collection of handcrafted furniture in Canada. Ferrari spent many years designing the interior spaces of international luxury residences and hotels, eventually realizing there was an opportunity in the market to leverage its experience as a space curator to design its own furniture.
