Jens Risom (1916-2016)
Danish designer, working in the USA
Trained at the Copenhagen School of Industrial Art, he started working at Nordisk Kompaniet in Stockholm (equivalent to the department stores in Paris).
In 1939, he moved to the United States and a few years later took part in the launch of the Knoll Furniture Company by creating a dozen models. This is the first line created for, manufactured and distributed by Knoll.
He is one of the first designers to bring the Scandinavian style to the United States.
He left Knoll in 1946 and started his own studio, Jens Risom Design, which he sold in 1970.
Jens Risom is a design star of the years 1950-70, for him the object should not be satisfied with the aesthetics. , he said that “A designer must keep in mind function, comfort and workmanship”.
