The spinning mill of the brothers Marcel and Philippe Japy was built in Exincourt in 1893 and was operated from 1894. It then employed 100 workers. It was enlarged at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1914, Philippe-Marcel Japy et Cie took the name Filatures et Tissages Japy. It then had 300 workers. In the aftermath, the company buys the neighboring cotton weaving factory Koechlin (which had been created in 1895) and thus expands its factory in Exincourt. In 1927, the Filatures et Tissages Japy company employed more than 850 people on three sites. It will cease its weaving activity in 1939 to devote itself only to spinning, until filing for bankruptcy in 1989. These buildings still exist south of Exincourt, between rue du Tissage, rue des Mines and rue schools. They are mainly used as storage places.
