"Pendulum Bronze And Marble Jean Bart The Corsair XIXth"
Important bronze clock with brown and golden patina depicting Jean Bart, born in 1650 and died in 1702, the famous Dunkirk corsair in the service of King Louis XIV. Leaning on a marine anchor and his sword in his belt, he sits cross-legged on a rock at the bottom of which are placed a cannon and cannonballs. The base is in black marble enhanced with decorations in gilded brass friezes resting on four top feet. Roman numerals on enamel dial marked “Mal Lavenere – Rue du Boiloi 22 - Paris”, with bezel with pearl decoration, protected by a bevelled glass door. Eight-day movement. Very crystalline and discreet ringtone as the hours and half-hours pass. Adjustment of advance/delay at twelve o'clock or by the pendulum. Glass door protecting movement. Height 60 cm, width 44 cm, depth 18 cm. Clock in very good condition and working perfectly. The watchmaker Lavenere practiced in 1850 in Bagnères de Bigorre then as a master watchmaker in Paris, rue du Bouloi circa 1860. See Dictionary of French Watchmakers – Tardy.
