"Scaramouche Commedia Dell'arte Weissenfels Meissen Kaendler Reinecke 1744"
Scaramouche Commedia dell'arte from the so-called Weissenfels Meissen series the model by Johann Joachim Kaendler and Peter Reinicke April 1744, the shaping close to the time. H. 13.3 cm Very good condition. The sponsor of a series of figurines on this theme was Johann Adolf II. Duke of Saxony Weißenfels (1685 - 1745), referred to by Kaendler as "Ihro Durchl. dem Hertzog Von Weißen Fels". This Francophile prince decided very early on for a military career. His cousin August II. king of Saxony, called him in 1711 to the service of Saxony and Poland. After the latter's death in 1733, he helped his successor, King Augustus III, secure Polish kingship, which he succeeded in doing by defeating Stanislaus I Leszczynski in 1736. The figure groups were commissioned and executed in Meissen between the First and Second Silesian Wars, to the realization of which he largely contributed. For the sculptural performance of the manufactory, they represented a spectacular success, because as three-dimensional sculptures they were only partially created after or inspired by series of engravings. A large part was therefore the result of the personal work of the model makers, such as in this case Peter Reinicke and Johann Joachim Kaendler. Inv. no. 0.755 1.975 €
