"Rene-hi S : "cezannian Undergrowth""
René-His (Edmond Charles René His dit) (1877-1960): “Cézannien undergrowth”, watercolor 38 X 45 cm, mounted by a neutral pH marie-louise in a beautiful pitch pine frame with inverted slope 58 X 68 cm. Signed on the extreme edge at the bottom left (it was hidden by a marie-louise!), this watercolor is early in the work of the Artist, I think around 1910/20. If he is universally known for his landscapes of lakes and rivers, he also painted in Algeria and in Provence where I think I can situate this very modern work with Cézanne accents.
