Charming secretary from the Louis XV period in the middle of the 18th century in native wood veneer.
a secretary with an inverted ogee, also called a cavet, typical of the style of the time.
it has a beautiful front opening with a wide flap with a curved movement, revealing a sober interior adorned with drawers and offering a worktop in which the royal blue leather has been changed.
the flap is supported by the original wrought iron compass.
The lower part opens with two doors revealing a shelf and a lockable chest.
it rests on 4 curved legs, the two of which are decorated with bronze shoes.
the low cross members are nicely scalloped. the sides and the front are veneered with native wood veneers: walnut, plum and light cherry fillets.
the veneer work on the sides takes up the movement of the facade in symmetry.
the top is of natural wood origin which is quite rare on this type of secretary where one often met marbles. large ogee drawer under the top and above the flap. the bronzes of the locks are period and all the locks work.
the amounts are slightly bevelled with a nice veneer work harmoniously lightening the furniture.
the veneer rests on an oak frame. the color contrast is superb between the blond walnut and the more contrasted plum tree.
the central motif of the star flap is superb and very decorative.
As it is native wood veneer, we took the option of a more sober waxed varnish than a too flashy buffer varnish.
some small use and maintenance restorations to restore some veneer chips.
a horizontal slot remains present on the lower part of the lower cross member of the flap as well as another vertical on the middle of the left door.
probably work from the Grenoble region.
a very beautiful, rather unusual secretary in beautiful, harmonious proportions that you can work on every day.
