"Eugène Baboulène Watercolor Signed Return From Fishing On The Port Of Toulon XXth Century Provence"
This watercolor by Eugène Baboulène (1905-1994) shows a return from fishing in the port of Toulon, the artist's birthplace. This nocturnal landscape, of a dominant midnight blue, leaves one wondering in front of the ocher light of the sails of rigging as well as the moving figures. The work is signed lower right. It is framed by Focardi (Cannes) as evidenced by the stamp on the back of the work. A bore should be noted, the work remains in good condition. Eugène Baboulène is one of the major figures of the contemporary Provençal school. He remains throughout his life in his native south, despite encounters like Derain, Marquet etc. He is a graduate of the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris as well as the Fine Arts of Paris. From the 1950s, he acquired a certain notoriety and his work was exhibited all over the world.
