A beautiful stained glass panel of the Virgin and Child upon a crescent moon.
German, late 15th century.
With later 19th / 20th century restorations.
Measures 42 x 32cm.
The crowned Virgin shown as the Queen of Heaven within a sunburst mandorla, in her right arm she holds the infant Christ who gazes at her adoringly and in her left hand she holds a fruit, most likely an apple. She wears a white dress beneath a blue gown, a representation of her purity and a symbol of heaven.
