Ferdinand de PRINS was born in Brecht, a small Flemish town in the Province of Antwerp, in 1859. The information concerning him is plotted. He entered the School of Fine Arts in Antwerp at the age of 13. He worked in the studios of Edward DUJARDIN (1817-1889), the landscape painter Johannes Emmanuel van den BUSSHE (1837-1908), Jozef van LUPPEN (1834-1891) or the watercolor painter and architect Auguste SCHOY. The very Flemish influence of his paintings is undeniable, as is the romantic character of each of his paintings.
Our Landscape under the Snow is a fine illustration of this Flemish painting of the 19th century, where a single silhouette brings the romantic touch that appeals so much to amateurs of this period. In a snow-covered moor, as the sun blazes as it disappears beyond the horizon. A frozen pond on the right on which no ducks wade while on the other side of a wide path covered with a thick coat of snow, a grove of trees half hides a farmhouse with snow-covered roofs. A small dark-haired figure wrapped in a large purple shawl trots with a determined step, alongside a dog, in the direction of the mill which raises its paunched figure in the glow of the setting day.
