Charcoal drawing on blue gray paper representing four portrait studies. The annotations indicate that they are characters from Shakespeare's play "Hamlet". Original drawing by Alexandre Bida (1813-1895), French painter, engraver and illustrator. Pupil of Delacroix and JP. Laurens. He participated in the Parisian Salons from 1846. He is known for his many orientalist drawings inspired by his many stays in the Middle East and for his illustrations of the works of Musset, Shakespeare and the Bible.
Good condition. Artist's monogram lower right.
