"Fireback Of Jacques Du Barquet And Marie Berryer (78x65 Cm)"
Fireback dating from the first quarter of the 18th century, with the arms of Jacques du Barquet (1663-1723), knight, count of Bourg, king's adviser, master of waters and forests of the generality of Alençon in 1705 and of Marie Berryer (? - 1728) married in 1705. The Barquet family had given their name to the parish of Bourg-Barquet today Bourg Saint Léonard in the Orne. This very old family was lord of Bourg with, among others, Jean du Barquet from 1512. Louis Berryer, father of Marie, count of La Ferrière (1616-1686), bought several seigneuries in Normandy including the county of La Ferrière, the stronghold of Domfront and that of Champsecret in 1671, town where the forges of Varenne are located, active from the end of the 16th century to 1866, the latter have been classified as a historical monument since July 16, 1987. Recommended to Mazarin and initiated to finance under the orders of Fouquet , he rubbed shoulders with Colbert, his role was important in the trial of Nicolas Fouquet by multiplying the charges and dragging out the procedure. Louis XIV ennobles him, and replacing Gourville, appoints him secretary of the Grand Council of the King. He attained the post of Secretary of the Queen's Commandments and purchased the post of Ordinary Councilor of State. It is to him and to Colbert that we owe the establishment of lace in France. The forges of Varenne depend on the seigniory of La Ferrière, today La Ferrière aux Etangs, and those of Halouze bought after 1648, allowed Louis Berryer to enrich himself. it is very likely that our plate comes from one of his forges. This plate was found in Livarot Pays d'Auge, Calvados. Arms: A dexter: Sable with three silver crescents. A sinister: Argent a chevron Gules accompanied in chief by two cinquefoils Azure and in base by an eaglet of the same. Motto: Do, Say, Silence. His weight is 57 kg.
