"Chimney Plate "
18th century fireback, "tea" after Boucher's chinoiseries. In a cartouche, a Chinese man, seated cross-legged, on a cushion presents a tea service, a monkey with a human attitude completes the picture. The plate is decorated with garlands of flowers tied with a ribbon bow and a set of curved and counter-curved scrolls in the style of the second half of the 18th century. A similar plaque is exhibited at the Louvre Museum, Sully wing, room 613 in the Chinese cabinet and at the Grand Trianon in Versailles. It should be noted that there is a crack in the lower part. Its weight is 103 kg. Bibliography: CARPENTIER H., Fireplace plates, Volume first, F. DE NOBELE, Paris, 1967, page 153 No. 357. You can visit our site: www.claudeaugustin.com
