"Bronze Sculpture " Le Danseur De Saltarelle" By Sanson"
The Saltarelle Dancer (a joyful dance of Neapolitan origin) is Sanson's flagship work, produced in 1865 in Rome. A resident at the Villa Medici for 5 years, he won the Grand Prix de Rome for his bas-relief "Ulysses bringing Chryseis back to his father". Between 1868 and 1883, he created statues for the decoration of the Louvre, the Tuileries, and the Opera. Originally from Nemours, his hometown in 1833, he contributed to the preservation of the château and donated some of his works in 1901, then bequeathed his studio assets upon his death in 1910.
