"Box"
Early 19th century round box in St Lucia wood, tortoiseshell interior. The lid is finely carved with a scene representing "Suzanne and the old men": Suzanne tries to repel the attacks of 2 old men as she leaves the fountain where she was taking her bath. At the bottom is the inscription: "Suzanne surprised by the old people" The reverse is also carved: in the center a multitude of "beaded" is surrounded by 3 lines of fine decorative motifs. This box is in good condition; we can however point out a discreet hitch on the turn of the reverse formerly filled. Interesting and nice collector's item. D: 8cm H: 2cm.
