Suite of four gilded beech armchairs with a slightly curved backrest, carved with rais-de-cœur and pearls, the fluted column uprights and the cuff armrests and baluster supports, decorated with a ribboned rush, resting on four tapered legs. splines;
Handwritten label from the 18th century in ink inscribed: “Bedroom of Mr le Cte de Charost”.
Stamp of Henri Jacob, carpenter received master in 1779. Louis XVI period.

Provenance: Armand-Louis-François-Edme de Béthune, Count of Chârost (1770-1794), son of the Duke of Chârost (mayor of the 10th arrondissement of Paris, currently 7th). Guillotined in 1794 for a counter-revolutionary plot. It is reported that he dog-eared the page of the book he was reading at the foot of the scaffold.
The Duke of Chârost, Armand-Joseph de Béthune (July 1, 1738 – October 27, 1800) was buried in Meillant castle which he had taken possession of in 1755, so it is possible that the reference to the bedroom of Mr le Cte de Charoste which is mentioned on the label, that is to say this one.
