Important 19th century sculpture in biscuit porcelain in the style of Sèvres signed on the back HOUDON (Jean Antoine Houdon Versailles 1741-Paris 1828) beautiful romantic composition depicting the life-size bust of Marie-Antoinette, the Queen of France is adorned with a costume of court dressed in a passementerie cape embroidered with fleur-de-lis opening onto a wide neckline featuring a medallion bearing the effigy of her husband, King Louis XVI. She is wearing a delicate hairstyle à la Fontange adorned with a plume of flowers. It rests on a square-moulded section pedestal. Good condition, dimensions: 70 cm high X 40 cm wide X 24 cm deep / Base: 16 X 16 cm. Note that a similar model was made in marble around 1783 by the sculptor Félix Lecomte (1737-1817) and is now kept at Versailles (inv. MV 2123).
