Oil on canvas (réentoilé) representing Saint John the Evangelist (also designated portrait of a poet).
The larger original work is kept in the Museum of Milan.
Several versions in different formats exist such as the one in the Hermitage Museum in Leningrad.
This famous composition (Longhi had nicknamed Del Cairo the Renoir of the Lombard school of the XVIIth century) by this very Caravaggesque expressive realist character was named "Saint John the Evangelist" writing his vision of the Apocalypse on Patmos.
The Milan painting, on the other hand, is called "Portrait of a poet".
Our painting would therefore be from the time known Seicento Lombardo but in a smaller format.
