Abelam mask, Baba Papua New Guinea H. 60 cm. Mask representing a stylized bird, made of a particularly fine openwork braiding. The eyes that repeat themselves several times indicate the mask's capacity for clairvoyance, nothing can be hidden from it! A median ridge divides the face into two parts, there are some traces of black polychromy, some minor minor accidents. This mask was used to frighten the uninitiated during certain ceremonies, it is particularly beautiful!Photos taken in daylight.
