"Antique Sewing Kit, Palais Royal Paris, Circa 1820"
Antique sewing kit. Pretty box in fruit wood decorated with decoration in steel spikes. With its original small key. Interior in silk and velvet. It contains 16 elements for sewing and embroidery, they are all original except for the small scent bottle which has been changed. The thimble, the punch and the needle case are decorated with the enamelled gold pansy traditionally present on the objects offered by the shops of the Palais Royal in Paris. The elements are in mother-of-pearl stuffed with great finesse, see in particular the exceptional work on the scissors decorated with sphinxes. The interior and the elements are in good condition, on the outside of the box, there are some lacks of wood veneer on the box with four corners. The box measures 8,74 inches X 6,14 inches. France, Paris, circa 1820.
