PAIR OF MAJOR GENERAL'S SHOULDER PADS, to the settlement of the 1st Vendemiaire Year XII (September 24, 1803), First Empire. Embroidered in curls of twists and gold sequins. Body embroidered with a design representing a braid with V-shaped sticks, edged with a scalloped strip on dark blue almost black woolen cloth; its escutcheon is decorated with a shield embroidered with gadroons and adorned with three stars in sewn silver thread, purl and sequins, diameter 1.4 cm. The outline of this crest is made up of two large revolving ones: one large in matt and shiny spun bourdon, rolled alternately and the other similarly but with a slightly smaller diameter. Fringes gathered in three rows of large twists called "spinach seeds". Cardboard body lined with almost black dark blue cloth. Length of the body without the shield 7.7 cm. Length of the body with the shield 12 cm. Length of the body with the two rotating 14 cm. Body width 6.3 cm. Width of the shield and the three rotating 11.3 cm. H total 6.5 cm. Cardboard box covered with ivory paper with dark green border and dark green silk interior lining. Length 32cm. Width 19.5cm. Height 8.5cm. Small bundle of herbs intended to perfume the box and the shoulder pads of Indian vetiver, bound at both ends by a rose with an ivory label in black printed paper “VETIVER DES INDES”. Total length of the bundle 19 cm, diameter 6 cm. France. First Empire. Shoulder pads in perfect condition, close to new. Box in good condition, lid missing a rim on 11.5 cm, some accidents at the corners. Fragrant herbs in very good condition. NOTE: Set leaving the family but not attributed, which has the extremely rare characteristic of still possessing its period scented herbs. It is for my part the only specimen thus known.
