"Bronze Sculpture Head Of Woman Gustave Jacobs. 1891/1986"
Born in Mons in 1891 and died in Mons in 1986. Sculptor, medallist and painter from Mons, Gustave Jacobs to whom we owe many bas-reliefs and monuments in Mons, whether at the town hall, the provincial government , or in the streets of the city. Friend of Anto Carte who had drawn his portrait, trained at the Academies of Mons and Brussels, Jacobs gave his name to a garden in Mons, at the bottom of the rue d'Havré. Outside Mons, the sculptor – influenced by Art Deco – signs several monuments (sometimes to the dead of the Great War) in the Walloon public space, mainly in Hainaut or Namurois (Wasmes, Gembloux or Quaregnon), as well than in Brussels. His work is also inspired by people from the mines. Professor of sculpture and director of the School of Arts and Drawing of Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, he delivered busts and exhibited, from 1925, with the Cercle "Bon Vouloir" in Mons. A popular sculptor, he won the Prix du Hainaut.
