Parisian workshop
chair 'à la reine'
relacquered wood, pegged joints
Paris, circa 1785
Dimensions : H. 87 ; W. 42 ; D. 43 (cm.)
Elegant chaise à la reine, resting on tapered, fluted and filleted legs, with a finely moulded belt and rounded connecting pieces. The backrest is a basket handle. The rear crossbar shows a trace of an iron mark with an "I" and a slash, perhaps an A, which makes one think of G . IACOB known for this type of chair.
An example of furniture
Our armchair is a perfect example of the distinction between furnishing and flying furniture. Furniture with a flat backrest, known as a "à la reine", is designed to remain in place. Our chair is a model that can be described as timeless and has been reused many times.
Condition report: seat reupholstered, with corner reinforcements in the waistband, the upholstery redone in the table and the seat with half springs. Linen fabric.
