Václav Vojtech Novák was a Czech painter. From 1919 to 1926, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he took lessons from Vratislav Nechleba, Vlaho Bukovac and Max Pirner. He traveled extensively throughout Europe and studied in Paris where he became familiar with the works of modern French artists, including André Derain, Henri Matisse and Raoul Dufy. He also drew inspiration for his work from his travels through England, Belgium and Italy. Most of his artistic heritage consists of landscapes depicting the Czech countryside and mountains, but he also enjoyed painting still lifes and portraits. In 1927 Novák became a member of Umělecká Beseda (Forum of Czech Artists) and Skupina 58 (Group 58).
