"Caucasus Chirvan Rug 164 X 103 Cm"
Caucasian wool rug, cotton warp and weft, circa 1970. Very good condition. Restoration of breakpoints in our workshop.Prayer rug composed of a mihrab inserting a large octagon representing the universe. There are also göls or guls (flower in Persian) of different sizes as well as the 'S' motif. Originally, this motif was an interpretation of a two-headed dragon that could be observed on ancient Persian, Chinese and Celtic bronzes. It symbolizes light, divinity, wisdom. A 'ram's horns' border on a deep red background is framed by two small 'herati' (flower pattern) borders. Rams horns symbolize virility, male fertility, strength and heroism.
