Large wooden travel trunk covered with leather reinforced with a rich decoration of copper nails forming patterns of coiled hinges, fit with two cut-out wrought iron side handles, it closes with two locks with beautiful cutouts, engraved hasps, and. .... We have the Key!.
Top and front are lined with thick full-grain leather, sides, back and bottom of leather or parchment are more modest. It took two strong servants to carry it full! Inside was padded by the previous owner, who highlighted and waxed this beautiful horse-drawn witness quite well.
Louis XIV period, late 17th or 1700, from Beaucaire, the locks seem to indicate a Languedoc origin.
Good general condition, with of course some wear from use.
