""Phryné" statuette en bonze d'Alexandre Falguière"
Bronze statuette with brown-green patina in very good condition, produced in the first half of the 20th century (around 1930) by Barbedienne, a famous Parisian foundry. Falguière signature and founder's mark on the base. Inspired by Jean-Léon Gérome's painting “Phryné before the Areopagus”. The original sculpture was published around 1869, a marble version is on display at the Vesoul museum. Alexandre Falguière was born in Toulouse in 1831. Encouraged by a pension granted by his native city, it was in Paris that he studied drawing with Carrier-Belleuse, he entered the Beaux-Arts in 1854, obtained a Prix de Rome in 1859. His talent rewarded with numerous distinctions, his works can now be seen in museums and on major sites in the capital.
