Doutre - Roussel: Superb And Heavy Cup In Neo-gothic Guilloche Sterling Silver. Late 19th Century

Solid silver coffee cup and saucer.

The cup and saucer have a superb guilloche decoration of fleurons and scrolls reminiscent of Gothic ironwork. The neo-Gothic style was very popular in the 19th century and reached its peak during the reign of Louis-Philippe and then the Second Empire.

The grip is also very elaborate with double windings and a decoration of falling dots and leaves.

The cup and saucer are hallmarked:
. Neck brace hallmark 1st title before 1973 for 950/°° silver
. Goldsmith's mark: D.ROUSSEL in full with a domino for the goldsmith Eugène Doutre-Roussel, active from 1849

Superb cup, of very good quality with its neo-Gothic guilloché decoration. The whole thing is of quality as evidenced by its weight.
