A tortoiseshell and Sheffield plate pique snuffbox.
English, mid 18th century.
Measures 5.7 x 2.7cm.
The lid and base are both set with tortoiseshell, the base turned and the lid with silver pique decoration with flowers, birds, butterflies and rabbits. The silver plating to the outside is with little wear and the gilded interior remains remarkably bright.
