"Pair Of Light Wood Chairs By Victor Horta"
Victor Horta (1861-1947) Pair of chairs, exotic wood, c. 1902. Not found in the Irpa photographic archives. These chairs have very recognizable and recurring details that can be found in Victor Horta's ornamental vocabulary. Like the feet ending in "hooves". The presence of concave and convex ornaments are part of the master's grammar. Condition report: due to old restorations, some details have been softened such as mini angles (in the cornices on the top of the back) which were originally straight and have become rounded over time and polishing. The edges are therefore less sharp. The auction house can recommend on request an excellent cabinetmaker capable of restoring the chairs to their former splendor. They deserve it, they are museum-worthy. The art nouveau style fabric is not original.
