Son and grandson of sculptors, he studied at the Brussels Academy with the sculptor Léon Mignon and then in Paris in the workshop of Gérôme. He exhibited at the Antwerp Salon in 1901, the Brussels Salon in 1903, and the Ghent Salon in 1906. He made many portraits, statues and war memorials (the one in Virton in 1923 and the one in Brussels in 1924).
Emile Verhaeren, Belgian poet of French expression was one of the most important poets of his time.
Close to the symbolist movement, he was an inspired witness of the societal mutation of the end of the 19th century.
His correspondence with great minds of his time such as Degas, Rodin, Van de Velde or Mallarmé affirm the consideration of the writer.
