"Large Louis XVI Console In Golden Wood Late Eighteenth Century Period"
French work, period to be dated between the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. Large half-moon console all in Louis XVI gilded wood, it rests on four tapered fluted legs carved with acanthus leaves....... Belt with knot and flower garlands, adorned with numerous sculptures throughout the room . Topped with its two original marbles called "Rouge de Rance" or "Rouge des Flandres" which is a variety exploited from the 16th century in the region of Rance, in Hainaut in Belgium. It obtained a great reputation mainly thanks to the intensive use which was made of it during the decoration of the Palace of Versailles where it is found used in profusion both in pavings, veneers and in pilasters, as in the Hall of Mirrors, for the making columns, staircases and monumental fireplaces. Furniture entirely period having undergone no restorations, gilding with some wrinkles of time but which does not alter in any way on the quality and the beauty of this piece of furniture.
