"Mério Améglio (1897-1970) The Mirror With Birds In Martigues In 1929"
The Brescon District, more commonly known as the "Mirror of Birds" in Martigues, the famous Provençal Venice, one of the most coveted subjects by artists of the early 20th century, of which Mério Améglio was one of the representatives. Made in a generous material and warm colors, a peaceful atmosphere emerges from this work which is proposed in a modern black frame, American box type which measures 83 cm by 95 cm and 60 cm by 73 cm for the canvas alone. In good condition, it is signed, located and dated 1929 lower right. Italian painter, engraver, lithographer and illustrator born in 1897 in San Remo. He is a Montmartre painter who enrolled in the School of Paris. He is mainly known for his landscapes, his scenes of urban life and his seascapes. He spent his entire childhood in the south of France. Passionate about painting from an early age, he observed artists working on the Riviera and trained by watching them work. He decides to leave to improve in Paris, and goes back to the capital by painting the landscapes he crosses. After the war, he continued to live in Montmartre and exhibited regularly in galleries in Paris and the south of France (Cannes, Nice, Menton). In October 1969, the Cambacérès gallery (Paris) organized a retrospective of his work. Mério Ameglio died in Montmartre in 1970.
