"Sanchez Sola : "girl With A Pearl""
Eduardo Sànchez Solà (1869-1949): “Girl with a pearl”, oil on canvas 81 X 56 cm, mounted in a beautiful frame with reverse slope 98 X 72 cm (small accidents). Two very small invisible restorations in front. Countersigned on the frame which also bears an exhibition number, probably in a Salon. Well, I admit it, the classic works of the artist usually leave me quite cold: scenes of priests and altar boys, Andalusian lovers and other kittens playing are certainly in line with what he was commissioned for bourgeois salons from Madrid or Granada, but when you see his "Lying Woman" which was on the Madrid market ten years ago or his "Discoverers" or even his "Beautiful Lady playing with a cat" one cannot only to regret that his virtuosity, close in some ways to Sorolla for the "strongly brushed", was not more preponderant in his work. Here, this beautiful Spanish woman with a pearl, wrapped in her blanket, all sobriety and restrained tension, is painted in a deliberately reduced palette that makes it a museum work.
