Signed “E. Hofmann 24.IX 33” lower right. A touching family scene with a young street musician with flute and his caring sister. A gifted young musician earns money by playing the flute, and his sister, sitting next to him, is ready at any moment to quench her young brother's thirst on a hot day. Unique and original masterwork. That may lead to Eduard Ansen-Hofmann (1862–1955), Austrian painter of Oriental motives, nudes, odalisques etc, highly professional, prolific and gifted painter. At the turn of the century, the Viennese painter Eduard Ansen-Hofmann (1862-1955) became known with his oriental slave market and harem scenes including female nudes. Even today these motifs achieve high prices at international auctions. Painted on artistic paperboard in oils likely in Italy.
