The painting, in excellent condition, depicts a typical view of Venice with a canal and a church in the background.
It is characterized, in addition to the pleasant subject, by the vivid light that is reflected in the colored touches of the canal water, in the chiaroscuro play of the green of the trees and in the light and warm tones of the buildings and the sky.
Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1923 after studying under the guidance of Ettore Tito, Scarpa Croce participated at a very young age in the exhibitions of Cà Pesaro and in the Venice International Art Biennale where he also exhibited in 1928, 1932, 1934 (invited) , 1935 (invited), 1940, 1942, 1948, 1950.
In 1930 he was called as an artistic consultant to the first Quadriennale in Rome.
His activity in the glass sector is also vast, in which he worked, as a draftsman and as a technician, from 1940 to 1942 and from 1950 to 1956.
He exhibited in almost all the group exhibitions of the Opera Bevilacqua La Masa from 1926 to 1957.
And it will be Bevilacqua La Masa who will celebrate him with a personal exhibition and a few months after his death in 1967 with a catalog embellished with an introduction by Diego Valeri.
Works by him can be found in museums and private collections in Italy and abroad.
